In response to player concerns about the future of *Helldivers 2*, Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani has reassured fans that the game remains their primary focus. Amidst the excitement of the full-scale Illuminate invasion launch, Jorjani took to the official Helldivers Discord to address fears that Arrowhead might shift its attention to their next project, known as "Game 6."
Jorjani emphasized the positive impact of the community's support, stating, "The wonderful thing is that thanks to the amazing support of you FINE people Arrowhead's future is quite bright and we have the freedom to explore some really cool concepts that we couldn't have otherwise. Game 6 (our next project) will happen the way it will happen thanks to you." However, this statement sparked concern among some fans, fearing a potential shift in focus away from *Helldivers 2*.
Quick to dispel these worries, Jorjani clarified, "Nah. It's ALL Helldivers 2 for now. A very, very small team will spin up something later this year and go at it sloowly. Helldivers is our main focus and will be for a loooong time." He further elaborated on the longevity of *Helldivers 2*, saying, "As long as you folks keep playing and buying Super Credits we can keep it going," highlighting the importance of the game's virtual currency used to purchase Premium Warbonds.
Jorjani also touched on Arrowhead's plans for their next game, "Game 6," stating, "The next game is 100% funded by ourselves so we'll call 100% of those shots." This suggests that Arrowhead will maintain full creative control over their next project, which is not expected to be *Helldivers 3* and will not involve Sony or any other publisher.
Reflecting on the development process, Jorjani shared insights into how Arrowhead aims to improve their approach for "Game 6." He noted, "For the most part of the development cycle games plain suck... For our next game we're doing things in a much smarter way and nailing a lot of the core s\*\*t early on (as you should) then make the rest." This approach contrasts with the eight-year development of *Helldivers 2*, which Jorjani described as "rough" but ultimately successful.
Despite the challenges and controversies *Helldivers 2* has faced since its explosive launch, including issues with PSN account requirements and community feedback on game balance, Arrowhead remains committed to its long-term vision. Alex Bolle, production director on *Helldivers 2*, echoed this sentiment, telling IGN, "we want it to be around for years and years and years to come." Bolle emphasized the team's motivation to continue developing new features and systems while staying true to the game's core identity.
Recent leaks suggest exciting developments on the horizon, including the potential addition of Super Earth as a playable map, as the Illuminate invasion progresses towards our home planet. With *Helldivers 2* already setting records as the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game, selling 12 million copies in just 12 weeks, Arrowhead's dedication to its community and future projects promises a bright future for both *Helldivers 2* and "Game 6."
