The developers of the upcoming life simulation game, inZOI, recently addressed fan inquiries regarding the game's depiction of intimate relationships. A particularly ambiguous response from the assistant director, avoiding the explicit term "sex," left players uncertain about the specifics.
The explanation essentially stated that intimate interactions occur implicitly. If male and female ZOIs retire to bed together, the intention to procreate is understood, but the visual representation is left to the player's interpretation.
The implication is that such interactions exist, but not in the manner many anticipated.
Consequently, the level of censorship remains unclear. Whether inZOI will employ a similar approach to The Sims series or adopt a novel method is yet to be determined.
The developers also clarified the decision to depict ZOIs showering in towels instead of using pixelated censorship. They explained that this approach is more suitable for the game's cartoonish art style. In a realistic style, pixelation can appear overly sexualized. Furthermore, a technical issue with the pixelation not appearing correctly in reflections contributed to this decision.
The game's rating provides further insight. The ESRB has assigned a T (Teen) rating, and a PEGI 12 rating is anticipated. These ratings align with those given to The Sims 4, offering a clue about the level of content included.
