Sony has addressed the nearly day-long PlayStation Network (PSN) outage this weekend, attributing it to an unspecified "operational issue." While the company offered no further explanation or preventative measures, PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive five extra days of service as compensation.
The outage significantly impacted gameplay, with over a third of players unable to log in and others reporting server crashes. This incident highlights concerns raised by players regarding Sony's requirement of a PSN account, even for single-player PC games.
This isn't the first major PSN disruption; a 2011 data breach resulted in over 20 days of connectivity issues. Although less severe, the recent outage has left PS5 users dissatisfied with Sony's limited communication regarding the cause and future prevention.
