Nintendo Revamps Privacy Policy for Switch 2 Voice, Video Data

Authore: AuroraUpdate:Apr 04,2026

The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to release in under a month, and users should be aware that its new functionality may include recording audio and video chats.

Nintendo updated its privacy policy (noticed by NintendoSoup) to clarify these features. This adjustment could influence how gamers use the Switch 2 at home or while traveling, as the company states it reserves the right to utilize collected data to "maintain a safe and secure environment for select services."

"Our services may enable users to generate, upload, or share content including text, images, audio, video, nicknames, and profile icons," explains the Your Content section of the policy.

"With user consent and for policy enforcement purposes, we may monitor and record audio/video interactions between players. Usage of services with these capabilities constitutes acceptance of these terms under our user agreement and privacy policy."

Notably, Nintendo emphasizes that user consent is required for monitoring recordings, implying an opt-in setting during Switch 2 setup.

This update warrants attention as the June 5 launch approaches. The new console emphasizes enhanced multiplayer communication, particularly through its dedicated C button for seamless voice chat via the built-in mic. Screen sharing recreates local multiplayer experiences remotely, while the optional camera accessory enables video streaming – albeit with basic quality.

Beyond visual upgrades and precision controls, these communication features may become the Switch 2's hallmark. Prospective users should review Nintendo's revised privacy terms.
