EA has introduced microtransactions into Skate during its most recent alpha test, ahead of an official release date announcement.
As reported by Insider Gaming, developer Full Circle has implemented microtransactions into the ongoing closed alpha test for EA's free-to-play Skate revival.
Players can now spend real money on a virtual currency called San Van Bucks, which is used to purchase cosmetic items. Full Circle appears to be testing Skate's microtransaction system, emphasizing their goal to ensure a "positive experience when buying items from the Skate store."
"Your feedback will be invaluable in creating a great experience for the Early Access launch," the message adds.
According to Insider Gaming, Full Circle has notified testers that all progress will be completely reset before Skate enters early access. Any purchases made during the test will be converted back into San Van Bucks and will be available again when early access begins.
Skate's early access launch is scheduled for 2025. The game was initially announced during EA Play as far back as 2020, though it was described as being in "very early" development at the time. Since then, Full Circle has kept players informed through closed community playtests of early versions and updates on the game's progress via its "The Board Room" video series.
The developer officially confirmed in 2022 that the game would be titled ‘skate.’ and also revealed that it will launch as a free-to-play title on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
