Deciding whether to give Sargamis the Splinter of Eothas in Avowed is a crucial early choice with significantly different consequences. This guide details the outcomes of giving Sargamis the splinter.
Refusing the Splinter:
Denying Sargamis the splinter initiates a challenging boss fight. He summons spirit creatures and utilizes swift, powerful attacks. He's vulnerable to frost spells. Victory rewards you with the Last Light of Day mace, a unique weapon with health restoration and fire damage enhancements.
Giving the Splinter:
Agreeing to give the splinter presents two main options (plus the possibility of changing your mind, triggering a fight):
-
Persuading Sargamis to use the statue: This leads to his death and rewards you with the Last Light of Day mace. Choosing this path also unlocks the "Get In The Statue, Envoy" achievement. Reloading the game restarts the scene.
-
Offering yourself to the statue: This path branches further, allowing you to either stand in the designated circle and die, or to leave the circle, provoking Sargamis into attacking you.
Completing Dawntreader Without Killing Sargamis:
The optimal approach involves convincing Sargamis his plan is flawed. This requires an Intellect stat of 4 or higher. Backgrounds like Court Augur and Arcane Scholar may offer relevant dialogue options. Place the splinter in the statue, activate it (it will fail), and then reason with Sargamis, emphasizing Eothas' absence. Avoid the soul transfer option. After Sargamis departs, choose to either allow the voice to utilize the statue or destroy it yourself. Finally, speak with Sargamis in his quarters to complete the quest and gain substantial experience.
This method provides a superior outcome compared to combat or simply handing over the splinter.
