If you're a Netflix subscriber, you've likely already binged the latest Black Mirror season. Season 7 dropped yesterday with all six episodes, receiving strong reviews. While the series itself is great, what caught our attention is Netflix's newest game adaptation - Black Mirror: Thronglets.
Black Mirror: Thronglets Is Based on Season 7's Episode 4
Viewers who've seen Episode 4 will immediately recognize how unsettling this game experience can be. For those unfamiliar, the episode jumps between 2034 and 1994, focusing on Cameron Walker (Peter Capaldi). Starting with a shoplifting arrest, the narrative explores childhood trauma, obsession, and Black Mirror's signature simulation themes.
Thronglets faithfully recreates the retro pixelated virtual pet game from the "Plaything" episode. Originally developed in the 90s by fictional character Colin Ritman (who appeared in other Black Mirror stories like Bandersnatch), Netflix's Night School studio has adapted it for mobile.
While initially resembling a glitchy Tamagotchi, the game evolves into something far more philosophical. These "Thronglets" aren't just digital pets - they're evolving digital lifeforms that begin as pixelated blobs but grow into complex beings learning from your every action.

The Game Is Watching You Too
As you play, the game analyzes your decisions and behaviors, eventually generating a personality profile based on how you treat your Throng. You can even compare results with friends for added fun.
Both the game and original episode explore memory, digital legacy and isolation through emotional, dark storytelling. Whether you're a Black Mirror fan or just seeking unique gaming experiences, Thronglets is available on Google Play Store.
