Saros: Housemarque's New Game Post-Returnal, Set for 2026

Authore: PeytonUpdate:Apr 03,2025

Housemarque, the acclaimed developer behind the 2022 roguelite shooter Returnal, has unveiled its latest project, Saros, set to launch in 2026 exclusively for PlayStation 5 and enhanced for PS5 Pro. Featuring Rahul Kohli in a starring role, Saros promises to continue Housemarque's tradition of intense gameplay and captivating narratives.

Announced during the recent PlayStation State of Play, Saros immerses players in the role of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer on a quest for truth across a treacherous, ever-changing planet. Haunted by an eclipse and stalked by at least one formidable entity, the game's atmosphere and themes echo those of Returnal. Phrases like "come back stronger" and visuals of spreading fireballs hint at the roguelite and bullet-hell elements that Housemarque is known for.

Creative Director Gregory Louden describes Saros as the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's gameplay-first approach. While it introduces a fresh single-player IP, it builds upon the third-person action foundation laid by Returnal. However, Louden emphasizes a significant gameplay difference: Saros introduces permanent resources and progression. Although the world transforms with each player's death, players can now permanently enhance their weapons and suits, adding a new layer of strategy and personalization.

More details about Saros are anticipated later this year, with Housemarque planning to reveal an extended gameplay demonstration. For a comprehensive overview of all the announcements from the PlayStation State of Play, be sure to explore our detailed recap.
