The official Hunger Games X/Twitter account announced the casting of the Harry Potter and The Conclave star today. As one of the key castings for the film, Fiennes faces the challenge of portraying one of the franchise's most complex characters.

Set chronologically between 2023's prequel The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and the original series starring Jennifer Lawrence, Sunrise on the Reaping will focus on Haymitch Abernathy's Games while featuring Fiennes as a middle-aged President Snow - bridging the gap between Tom Blyth's younger portrayal and Donald Sutherland's iconic version from the original films.

"We wanted to honor Donald Sutherland's legacy by casting one of our generation's finest actors as President Snow in this earlier era," producer Nina Jacobson stated. "Ralph has been on my wishlist since his unforgettable performance in Schindler's List. It's truly an honor to welcome him to Panem."

While Fiennes' casting stands out as particularly exciting, the film has announced several noteworthy stars including Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad) as young Plutarch Heavensbee and Joseph Zada (Total Control) as Haymitch Abernathy.
