Mastering the Voodoo Doll in Phasmophobia: A Guide to Cursed Possessions

Sometimes, identifying the most dangerous ghosts in Phasmophobia requires employing equally risky tools, such as Cursed Possessions. The Voodoo Doll is a prime example, offering a potentially high-reward, high-risk gameplay mechanic. This guide details how to acquire and effectively utilize this item.

How to Use the Voodoo Doll

The Voodoo Doll's primary function is to provoke the ghost into revealing evidence. By sequentially inserting pins, you encourage ghost activity, making it particularly useful when dealing with elusive or passive entities. This can expedite the identification of evidence like EMF5 readings or UV fingerprints.

The doll has ten pins. However, each pin insertion carries a sanity cost of 5%, totaling a 50% sanity reduction if all pins are used. This significantly increases the risk of a ghost hunt.

The most significant risk lies in the heart pin. Pin insertion is random; hitting the heart pin instantly triggers a Cursed Hunt, reducing sanity by 10% and initiating a prolonged (20 seconds longer) ghost hunt in close proximity to the player.

Despite the inherent risks, the Voodoo Doll can be a valuable asset for evidence gathering, particularly with proper preparation and team coordination.

Cursed Possessions (also called "Cursed Objects") are unique items found randomly across Phasmophobia maps, with spawn rates influenced by difficulty and game mode (Challenge Mode).

Unlike standard equipment, which minimizes risk while providing evidence, Cursed Objects offer shortcuts to manipulate ghost behavior but at a substantially higher risk to player characters. The risk-reward ratio varies between objects. Using them is optional; no penalties exist for avoiding them. Only one Cursed Possession appears per contract (unless modified in Custom settings).

Seven Cursed Objects exist:

  • Haunted Mirror
  • Voodoo Doll
  • Music Box
  • Tarot Cards
  • Ouija Board
  • Monkey Paw
  • Summoning Circle
