Obsidian's CEO Expresses Confidence in The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed

Positive Outlook for Obsidian's Upcoming RPGs

In a recent YouTube interview with Limit Break Network, Urquhart shared positive news about *The Outer Worlds 2*, stating that development is proceeding smoothly. He praised the dedicated team, many of whom worked on the original title, expressing his confidence in their ability to deliver a high-quality sequel.

Urquhart candidly addressed the difficulties faced by the studio, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic and the period following their acquisition by Microsoft. Simultaneous development of multiple titles, including Grounded and Pentiment, placed significant strain on the team. He acknowledged a challenging period, even mentioning internal discussions about potentially halting The Outer Worlds 2 development to focus resources on Avowed. However, Obsidian ultimately decided to persevere with all projects.

Obsidian's Multi-Title Development Challenges"We were acquired [in 2018], then navigated the acquisition process, faced the COVID-19 pandemic, finished Outer Worlds, completed its DLC, moved Avowed forward, restarted Outer Worlds 2, kept Grounded moving, and Josh worked on Pentiment," Urquhart recounted.

He highlighted the successful outcomes of Grounded and Pentiment, and expressed enthusiasm for the progress of both Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, describing the latter as "looking incredible." While specific game details remain undisclosed, the recent delay of Avowed to 2025 suggests potential timeline adjustments for other Obsidian projects.

Positive Progress on Multiple FrontsDespite the lack of substantial updates since its 2021 announcement, Urquhart acknowledged the possibility of a launch delay for The Outer Worlds 2, similar to Avowed. However, he reaffirmed Obsidian's commitment to delivering exceptional games, stating, "We will deliver on all these games. Will they meet our initial timelines? No. But we'll get there, and that's been proven." Both titles are slated for release on PC and Xbox Series S/X.
