The Samsung S90D is the 2024 model from the previous generation. While a new "S90F" model is available for 2025, it costs more than twice as much. The S90D is equipped with Samsung's high-end quantum dot OLED panel, which provides greater brightness and a wider color spectrum than traditional W-OLED panels. Compared to standard LED LCD TVs, OLED technology delivers superior picture quality, near-perfect black levels, an almost infinite contrast ratio, and incredibly fast response times. For most applications, you can't find a better display if you're willing to invest in the technology.
Beyond its OLED advantages, the Samsung S90D includes all the features you'd expect from a gaming TV. It has a native 120Hz refresh rate that can be boosted to 144Hz, along with four HDMI 2.1 ports for 4K gaming at 120Hz on a PS5 or Xbox Series X. The S90D also supports variable refresh rate (VRR) and auto low latency mode (ALLM).
Is this a good TV for the Nintendo Switch 2?
Although it's a current-generation console, the Nintendo Switch 2 has less demanding TV requirements than the PS5 or Xbox Series X. When docked to a television, the Switch 2 outputs a 4K signal at up to 60 frames per second. It can reach 120fps at 1080p resolution, but the required data bandwidth for both options is nearly identical. Interestingly, it doesn't support VRR when docked—that feature is exclusive to handheld mode. Nevertheless, the Switch 2 will still deliver an outstanding visual experience on the Samsung S90D's beautiful OLED screen.
