Chris Evans Says He Isn't Returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Another Avengers

Authore: ZoeUpdate:Mar 17,2025

Chris Evans, the star of Captain America, has definitively stated that he will not be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in Avengers: Doomsday or any other future films, despite recent reports suggesting otherwise. Evans directly refuted a Deadline article claiming his return alongside Robert Downey Jr., calling the report "not true."

This contradicts information shared by Anthony Mackie, the current Captain America, who initially stated his manager informed him of Evans' return. However, Mackie later confirmed he spoke with Evans directly, who reiterated his retirement from the MCU. Evans emphasized his contentment with his retirement, noting that similar rumors have circulated since Avengers: Endgame.

While Evans did reprise his role as Johnny Storm from the Fox universe in Deadpool & Wolverine, this was a smaller, comedic role distinct from his central Captain America arc.

The MCU's future remains somewhat uncertain following the removal of Jonathan Majors, who played Kang the Conqueror, after facing assault and harassment charges. Majors was poised to become a major antagonist, similar to Thanos, but his departure has reportedly caused disruptions in Marvel's plans.

Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., has been announced as the new primary antagonist, leading to speculation about other original Avengers returning. However, currently, only Downey Jr.'s involvement is confirmed.

Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Doctor Strange, confirmed his absence from Avengers: Doomsday but will have a "central role" in its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars. The Russo Brothers are directing Avengers: Doomsday, which will reportedly continue the multiverse storyline, with Hayley Atwell's Agent Carter also rumored to appear.
