Smite 2's Open Beta Launches with New God, Game Mode, and More

Smite 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the popular MOBA, has officially launched its free-to-play open beta across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), and Steam Deck. This release coincides with a significant content update from Titan Forge Games.

A year in the making and built using Unreal Engine 5, Smite 2 boasts enhanced visuals and refined combat mechanics compared to its predecessor. The revamped item shop offers greater flexibility, allowing players to equip diverse items regardless of their chosen god's class. Core gameplay remains true to the original Smite: players embody gods from various mythologies in 5v5 battles, vying for control of the map and ultimately, victory.

This open beta introduces a wealth of new content, headlined by the addition of Aladdin, a completely new god designed specifically for Smite 2. Aladdin’s unique abilities, including wall-running and a three-wish revival mechanic tied to his companion, culminate in a powerful ultimate that traps enemies in a 1v1 duel.

Key additions in the Smite 2 open beta include:

  • Five new gods: Aladdin, Geb (Egyptian God of Earth), Mulan (Chinese Ascendant Warrior), Agni (Hindu Pantheon), and Ullr (Norse Pantheon).
  • The return of the beloved 3v3 Joust mode.
  • A fresh Arthurian-themed map.
  • Conquest map updates.
  • An alpha version of the Assault game mode.
  • New "Aspects" – optional enhancements for select gods.

Titan Forge Games' creative director has declared Smite 2 superior to its predecessor in numerous aspects, crediting player feedback from the closed alpha for significant improvements. The developer promises ambitious new content additions throughout 2025.

While the open beta is available on major platforms, Nintendo Switch players will have to wait. Titan Forge Games previously cited concerns regarding the Switch's capabilities to run the game smoothly, but remains open to a potential release on the Switch 2. For now, Smite fans on other platforms can dive into the action.
