Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: How To Catch And Evolve Deino

Authore: MichaelUpdate:Feb 28,2025

This guide details how to obtain and utilize Hydreigon, a powerful Dark/Dragon-type Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Hydreigon's evolution line—Deino and Zweilous—are exclusive to Pokémon Scarlet, requiring trading or transferring to obtain them in Pokémon Violet.

Acquiring Deino and Zweilous:

Deino can be found in several locations within Pokémon Scarlet: Alfornada Cavern, Dalizapa Passage, Glaseado Mountain, Area Zero, and North Province (Area Two). Higher-level Deino (levels 35-40) reside in Alfornada Cavern and Dalizapa Passage. Koraidon's high jump ability is needed for Alfornada Cavern. Dalizapa Passage is located between Medali and Zapapico. Three-star Tera Raids (accessible after three Gym Badges) also offer Deino, potentially with a Hidden Ability and varied Tera Types. Zweilous, Deino's evolution, appears in four-star Tera Raids and some wild locations.

Transferring to Pokémon Violet:

Since Deino and its evolutions are Scarlet-exclusive, transferring is necessary for Violet players. This can be done via Pokémon HOME, requiring the HOME app on your Nintendo Switch. Transfer from compatible games (Pokémon Sword/Shield, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet) to your HOME Basic Box, then transfer to your Pokémon Violet PC Box. Alternatively, utilize the Union Circle (requires Nintendo Switch Online) for trading.

Evolution:

Deino evolves into Zweilous at level 50, and Zweilous evolves into Hydreigon at level 64. Utilize auto-battling, Exp. Candies (L and XL recommended), or Rare Candies to expedite the leveling process.

Hydreigon's Strengths and Weaknesses:

Hydreigon is a pseudo-legendary Pokémon boasting a 600 base stat total. Its high Special Attack and Attack, coupled with good Speed, make it versatile. A Timid (+Speed, -Attack) or Jolly (+Speed, -Special Attack) Nature is recommended.

Hydreigon Stats

  • Stats: HP: 92, Attack: 105, Special Attack: 125, Defense: 90, Special Defense: 90, Speed: 98, Total: 600
  • Type Effectiveness: Super effective against Dragon, Ghost, Psychic; Weaknesses: Fairy (4x), Fighting, Bug, Dragon, Ice; Resistances: Grass, Water, Fire, Electric, Ghost, Dark; Immunities: Ground, Psychic.
  • Strategy: Hydreigon's double weakness to Fairy-type moves is mitigated by Terastallizing. Consider a special attacker build utilizing moves like Nasty Plot, Dragon Pulse (or Draco Meteor), Dark Pulse, and Flash Cannon (Steel-type coverage via TM).

Hydreigon's power and versatility make it a valuable addition to any team. Remember to strategize around its weaknesses for optimal performance.
