Marvel Rivals Reverses Controversial Mid-Season Rank Reset Decision
Following significant player backlash, Marvel Rivals has reversed its decision to implement mid-season rank resets. The developer announced the reversal in Dev Talk 11, just hours after the initial announcement in Dev Talk 10 sparked widespread criticism.
Dev Talk 10 proposed a system where player ranks would reset four divisions every 45 days (mid-season), a move deemed discouraging by many players striving for higher ranks. This prompted a swift response from the developers. Dev Talk 11 confirmed that there will be no mid-season rank reset. Players will retain their current rank and score from the first half of the season. However, the end-of-season rank reset will still occur, dropping players six divisions.
New Heroes and Other Updates Remain
Despite the rank reset reversal, other planned updates are still on track. The highly anticipated addition of Human Torch and The Thing, bringing the total roster to 39 heroes, remains scheduled. NetEase Games continues its commitment to adding two new playable characters per three-month season.
Rewards for players reaching Gold rank and above remain unchanged. Players achieving Gold rank or higher will receive an Invisible Woman costume. Grandmaster and above will receive Crests of Honor. Additional rewards, including another free costume and Crests of Honor for Grandmaster and above, will be awarded at the end of the season. Balance adjustments are also planned for a post-mid-season update, though specifics are yet to be revealed.
Community Feedback and Developer Response
Marvel Rivals' rapid response to player feedback was widely praised. The developer emphasized its commitment to community engagement, stating their dedication to creating the best possible game experience.
The mid-season update is scheduled for February 21, 2025. Marvel Rivals is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
