Elden Ring Nightreign: Raider Class Hands-On - IGN First

Authore: VioletUpdate:May 21,2025

If you revel in the thrill of Elden Ring's strength-based playstyle, wielding massive weapons and delivering devastating blows through jumping attacks and charged strikes, then the Raider class in Nightreign is tailor-made for you. Check out the video below to see the Raider in action.

While the Guardian class in Nightreign focuses on defense, equipped with a shield and an ultimate ability that shields the entire party from damage, the Raider is crafted as a relentless offensive juggernaut. The cornerstone of the Raider's arsenal is the Retaliate ability. At first glance, Retaliate might seem modest with its two stomps causing physical and poise damage. However, the true power lies in the Raider's passive ability, which prevents knockback during Retaliate. This allows the Raider to soak up damage without interruption, turning a seemingly weak second stomp into a formidable punch that can stagger even the mightiest of foes if it absorbs a significant hit.

The Raider's ultimate, Totem Stela, is equally impressive. By slamming the ground, the Raider summons a towering totem that erupts, inflicting massive damage on nearby enemies. This ultimate not only deals substantial damage but also serves as a strategic asset. The totem can be climbed, offering a safe haven or a tactical vantage point for you and your teammates. Moreover, it grants a damage buff to everyone, making it a crucial ability to coordinate with your team for maximum impact.

Starting with the Raider's Greataxe, which inflicts fire damage and comes with the "Endure" skill to absorb enemy attacks, the Raider is well-equipped for battle. As you progress, seeking out larger strength-scaling weapons will enhance your playstyle, aligning perfectly with the Raider's combat philosophy.

Among all the classes I've tried in Nightreign, the Raider stands out as the most enjoyable. It excels in one-on-one combat, fitting perfectly with the class's Remembrances, which involve gladiatorial-style boss fights. This unique approach offers a refreshing change from typical gameplay.

Stay tuned throughout the month for more in-depth looks at Nightreign's mechanics, developer interviews, and more as part of IGN First's coverage.
