Director Junya Ishizaki, in a PC Gamer interview (Issue 405, reported by Games Radar, February 10, 2025), revealed the game's dynamic map generation. Expect significant terrain alterations, including the random appearance of volcanoes, swamps, and forests. This design choice aims to transform the game world into a massive, ever-changing dungeon.

These environmental hazards will challenge your strategies. Forests offer both player and enemy concealment, demanding careful navigation. Poison swamps, reminiscent of previous Souls titles (like the Swamp of Aeonia), will slow your progress and inflict the Rot debuff. Expect encounters with unique enemies adapted to these environments – Giant Lobsters, Runebears, Magma Wyrms, and more.

Strategic Depth and Player Agency

The unpredictable nature of the terrain directly impacts combat strategy. Knowing the terrain will influence your boss fight preparations. Ishizaki emphasizes the player's agency in adapting to these challenges, stating, "We wanted to offer players that agency, to decide 'I need to go after a poison weapon this time to face this boss.'"
