Dragon Age: The Veilguard Director Reportedly Exits BioWare

Corinne Busche, the director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly departing from BioWare, an EA-owned studio. Eurogamer reported that Busche, who served as game director from February 2022 until the game's launch last year, will be leaving in the coming weeks. EA has been contacted by IGN for comment.

Questions regarding the commercial success of Dragon Age: The Veilguard have persisted since its October release. While Eurogamer stated Busche's departure is unrelated to other studio changes, the game's performance remains unclear. EA's Q3 2025 financial results, expected on February 4th, may shed light on whether sales met or exceeded expectations.

Busche's exit is reportedly unconnected to The Veilguard's sales figures. BioWare has confirmed there are no plans for DLC for the game, shifting focus instead to Mass Effect 5, a project previously teased but not yet fully unveiled.

The news follows August 2023 layoffs affecting approximately 50 BioWare employees, including veteran narrative designer Mary Kirby. These cuts coincided with an EA restructuring, dividing the company into sports and non-sports divisions, and fueled rumors of a potential BioWare acquisition. The decision to transition Star Wars: The Old Republic to a third-party publisher was ostensibly to allow BioWare to concentrate on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

The journey of Dragon Age: The Veilguard was marked by challenges. The initial reveal trailer received negative feedback, prompting a quick release of gameplay footage to appease fans. The name change from Dreadwolf to The Veilguard also drew criticism, although subsequent impressions were generally more positive.

The future of the Dragon Age franchise remains uncertain. Whether BioWare will be given the opportunity to develop a sequel to The Veilguard is now a question for fans.
