Coppola's Megalopolis Spawns Graphic Novel Spin-off

Authore: LoganUpdate:Oct 06,2026

Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis emerged as the most polarizing film of 2024. This audacious, unconventional epic—considered bizarre by some—dominated conversation after its premiere at the previous Cannes Film Festival, sparking heated debates throughout the year. Now, Coppola is adapting this visionary story into graphic novel format.

Titled Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis: An Original Graphic Novel, this reinterpretation will publish through Abrams ComicArts in October, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Chris Ryall, renowned for adapting works by Stephen King, Harlan Ellison, and Clive Barker, lends his writing expertise, while Jacob Phillips (Newburn, That Texas Blood) provides the artwork.

"I entrusted Chris Ryall with developing the graphic novel concept," Coppola explained. "While inspired by my film, we envisioned it as a standalone creative sibling—given freedom to evolve through Jacob's artwork and Chris's writing. The Abrams team has beautifully realized this vision, proving art refuses boundaries—it always finds new expressive pathways to engage audiences."

The filmmaker added: "This adaptation exemplifies how creative works can generate parallel artistic universes, enriching our cultural landscape for viewers and readers alike."

Megalopolis centers on visionary architect Adam Driver, whose utopian ambitions collide with pragmatic mayor Giancarlo Esposito in a modern retelling of Roman allegory—where competing visions for "New Rome" spark ideological warfare over urban renewal.

Currently unavailable on streaming platforms, the film can be rented or purchased through major digital retailers.
