Amazon is offering a significant discount on a feature-packed Android 4K streaming device. You can get the Google Streamer 4K for $79.98 (regularly $100). This was one of the most popular deals during October Prime Day and it remains active for a short time longer. Beyond its streaming capabilities, the Google Streamer 4K serves as a smart hub and is Thread compatible. It is also more affordable than other competitive alternatives.

The Google Streamer 4K launched in September 2024. It succeeds the Chromecast 4K, improving upon it in almost every way. The new processor is up to 22% faster, with double the memory (2GB) and quadruple the onboard storage (32GB). It supports both wireless 802.11ac and wired gigabit ethernet. It includes a USB Type-C port, making it easier to find a power adapter if you lose the included one. The remote has been updated with a useful remote-finder feature for those inevitable moments when you misplace it. The Streamer can also control your smart home devices, functioning as both a Thread border router and a Matter hub.
Like other premium models, the Google Streamer 4K streams up to 4K resolution in HDR, including Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HDR10+ formats. Although it features an HDMI 2.1 port, it is limited to a 4K @ 60Hz refresh rate. The Google Streamer does support Dolby Atmos if paired with Atmos-compatible speakers like the Sonos Arc.
In terms of features, the Google Streamer 4K is comparable to the Apple TV or Roku Ultra but at a lower price point. The Nvidia Shield TV Pro offers even more functionality (for example, it can be used as a Plex media server), but it retails for a much higher $200. Because you get the added benefit of smart home functionality and Matter and Thread compatibility, the Google Streamer is an attractive option even at its retail price. When there's a deal, the value is hard to beat.
