To initiate The Tournament quest, you'll need to speak with Gyoji, a resident of Yamato. After you've taken down several members of The Shinbakufu, Gyoji will be waiting outside your hideout, eager to discuss the tournament. This secret fighting arena is located at the Ominesanji Temple in Southeastern Yamato. To make your journey easier, synchronize with the Ominesanji Overlook viewpoint to the west of the area, creating a fast travel point that you can use to return or switch characters as needed.

Upon reaching Ominesanji Temple, engage with Gyoji again. He'll inform you that you must participate in four one-on-one duels before facing the ultimate champion. After the cutscene, ring the bell to kick off your first fight.

How to Complete The Tournament in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The Tournament is a gauntlet of intense, life-or-death battles. Fortunately, you can take breaks between fights, using the time to heal with rations and adjust your weapons and armor. To triumph over each opponent, we suggest wielding a long katana as Yasuke, leveraging dodge and parry to exploit their vulnerabilities. Utilize abilities like Power Dash and Payback when your adrenaline is sufficient.

Knowing the weapons each fighter uses can significantly enhance your strategy. Here's a rundown of the opponents you'll face:

  • Lady Masago wields a Naginata.
  • Lord Suguru uses a Katana.
  • Lord Hokuto fights with a Kanabo.
  • Lady O-Sen employs two Poison Katanas and throws ranged items.
  • Lord Unkai uses a Naginata and can heal by drinking if you keep your distance for too long.

After defeating all challengers, speak with Gyoji atop the hill. He'll express gratitude for his freedom and mention future tournaments. At this point, the "Test Your Might" trophy should unlock.

Best Loadout and Skills for Tournaments in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The Long Katana is your go-to weapon for The Tournament. Equip the highest rarity Long Katana you have, and upgrade it to the maximum at your hideout's blacksmith. Engravings that boost Armor Damage or Armor Piercing are crucial. However, your choice of armor is equally important, as it not only increases your health but also offers combat-altering abilities through engravings.

Before entering The Tournament, secure the Samurai Daimyo Armor of Legend by defeating The Ox of the Shinbakufu, and the Protector’s Armor from completing a Castle. The former enhances your damage by 75% but caps your health at 25%, while the latter enables you to parry unblockable attacks. Combining these engravings can allow you to defeat tournament enemies in under a minute, provided you parry effectively.

For skills, focus on investing Mastery points into the Long Katana and Samurai trees. Max out Combat Expert to boost your melee damage and unlock Power Dash and Payback for an edge in battle.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S starting March 20th.
