Warner Bros. Closes

Warner Bros. Games is shutting down Mortal Kombat: Onslaught less than a year after its launch. The mobile game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on July 22nd, 2024. Read on for details about the game's closure.

In-game purchases will be disabled starting August 23rd, 2024, but players can continue playing until October 21st, 2024, when the servers will be permanently shut down.

The exact reasons for the shutdown remain undisclosed. However, NetherRealm's recent closure of its mobile games division (which also handled Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice) suggests a potential shift in the company's mobile gaming strategy.

What Happens to In-App Purchases?

Players who made in-app purchases are awaiting clarification on refunds for in-game currency and items. NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. have yet to provide details on this matter, but promise further updates soon. Follow their official X (formerly Twitter) account for announcements.

Launched in October 2023 to commemorate the franchise's 30th anniversary (and initially announced in October 2022), Mortal Kombat: Onslaught offered a unique take on the Mortal Kombat universe. Unlike previous titles, it blended action-adventure gameplay with a cinematic storyline, reminiscent of free-to-play mobile MOBAs. The game centered around Raiden and a player-controlled team thwarting Shinnok's bid for power.
