- Sonic Rumble is launching a pre-release crossover event
- Characters from Altered Beast, Fantasy Zone, and Super Monkey Ball will join the fray
- Some characters will be free to claim, while others can be purchased in-game
Although the global launch is still on the horizon (scheduled for May 8th), Sonic Rumble isn't wasting any time kicking off its first crossover event. This isn't about bringing in outside franchises, however. Instead, it's a celebration of Sega's own legacy, featuring iconic characters from past and present.
Interestingly, this event is happening before the game's worldwide release, presumably for players in regions where the soft launch is available. From now until May 7th, you can claim the Werewolf character—inspired by the classic Altered Beast—for free.
Meanwhile, subscribers to the Sega Star Event Pass can unlock additional characters: the Weredragon from Altered Beast and Opa-Opa, Sega's original mascot from the arcade hit Fantasy Zone.
Lucky youBut there's more. The in-game Ring Shop will offer Upa-Upa and the Werebear, while the Red Star Ring Shop features Super Monkey Ball favorites AiAi and MeeMee.
It's uncommon to see such an event before a game's official release, but players with early access are likely excited to collect these special characters.
This is probably just the beginning. According to Sega, this event kicks off a busy schedule of crossovers and collaborations planned for Sonic Rumble.
