Oni Press continues its successful EC Comics relaunch with the upcoming vampire series, Blood Type. Launching this summer (2025), Blood Type expands on a story from the Epitaphs From the Abyss anthology.
IGN exclusively reveals the cover art for Blood Type #1:
This marks the first of several planned EC Comics spin-offs. The series is written by Corinna Bechko (known for Cruel Universe and Green Lantern: Earth One) and illustrated by Andrea Sorrentino (Gideon Falls, Old Man Logan), with colors by Dave Stewart (Hellboy). Multiple cover variants will be available, featuring art by Sorrentino, Miguel Mercado, Albert Monteys, and Naomi Franq.
Oni Press provides the following synopsis:
WHEN YOU'RE A VAMPIRE, EVERYBODY SUCKS...SOONER OR LATER! Meet Ada, an immortal vampire whose past catches up with her at a Caribbean resort. This idyllic island paradise, filled with wealthy tourists and superstitious locals, provides ample opportunities for this bloodthirsty vamp seeking refuge. But as Ada hunts, she becomes entangled in a deadly game of cat and mouse, pursued by a different kind of predator driven by greed and power. Who will survive this conflict, and what will remain?
Bechko describes the story as a "wicked tale" featuring a compellingly unromantic vampire protagonist. Sorrentino emphasizes his passion for horror and the unique challenge of creating impactful imagery. He highlights the honor of collaborating with EC Comics, Bechko, and Dave Stewart.
Blood Type #1 debuts June 18, 2025. A reprint of the original Blood Type short story will be included in the Free Comic Book Day 2025 special, EC Presents: Blood Type #0. For more comic book news, check out previews for Marvel and DC's 2025 releases.
