"Switch 2 Exclusive: Duskbloods' Hub Keeper - A Cute Change Due to Nintendo Partnership"

Authore: HarperUpdate:Apr 06,2025

FromSoftware has recently unveiled more details about their upcoming exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2, titled The Duskbloods. This collaboration with Nintendo has not only influenced the game's style but also led to a unique design for the hub area's keeper, introducing a character that breaks from FromSoftware's traditional aesthetic.

During the Switch 2 Direct, the trailer concluded with a striking image of a winged rat adorned with glowing glyphs, directly engaging the audience. This character, as it turns out, serves as the hub companion in The Duskbloods, akin to the fire keepers in the Dark Souls series. In an interview with Nintendo, director Hidetaka Miyazaki explained, "That character shares a similar role with the fire keepers from the Dark Souls series. They remain in the hub area, providing the player with advice and guidance."

Miyazaki further elaborated on the character's design, stating, "I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in the spirit of the partnership." When pressed on what he meant by "Nintendo-esque," he added with a laugh, "We tried something cute for a change. Although I will say this character is actually an elderly gentleman."

FromSoftware's hub keepers have always been pivotal in guiding players through their challenging worlds, with iconic figures like Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll. In The Duskbloods, a PvPvE game, the winged rat's role in providing advice and guidance remains to be fully explored. Miyazaki hinted at the game's innovative approach, saying, "The team at FromSoft has tried its hands at introducing a lot of new and interesting ideas," suggesting that players should brace for surprises when The Duskbloods launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
