The Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster promises a revitalized experience for long-time fans and a captivating introduction for newcomers. Director Tatsuya Ogushi and Lead Planner Takahiro Sakiyama, in a Famitsu interview (translated via Google), expressed their hopes that this remaster will not only attract new players but also serve as a springboard for future Suikoden titles. Ogushi, deeply connected to the series, paid tribute to the late Yoshitaka Murayama, the series creator, stating, "I’m sure Murayama would have wanted to be involved as well." Sakiyama, who directed Suikoden V, added, "I really wanted to bring ‘Genso Suikoden’ back to the world, and now I can finally deliver it."
Enhanced Features in the Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster
Based on the 2006 Japan-exclusive PlayStation Portable collection, the HD Remaster significantly enhances the original games. Konami has upgraded the background illustrations with high-definition textures, creating richer, more immersive environments. While the original pixel art sprites are refined, their classic charm remains intact.
The remaster also includes a Gallery showcasing music and cutscenes, and an Event Viewer allowing players to revisit key moments, both accessible from the main menu.
Beyond visual improvements, the remaster addresses past issues. The infamous shortened Luca Blight cutscene from Suikoden 2's PSP release is restored to its original length. Furthermore, some dialogue has been updated to reflect modern sensibilities; for example, Richmond's smoking habit has been removed to align with Japanese smoking regulations.
Launching March 6, 2025, on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, the Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster promises a renewed experience for fans and a compelling introduction for newcomers.
