In a recent interview with TigerBelly, *Stardew Valley* creator Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone hinted at the possibility of a sequel, stating he may "eventually make a Stardew Valley 2." While this news is sure to excite fans, Barone also offered some context, explaining that expanding the original game feels far more appealing than starting fresh with an entirely new title.
“It's so much easier to just add more stuff to Stardew Valley than to make a whole new game from scratch,” he explained. “All the major systems are already done — that’s the stuff that’s not fun to do. When I make an update now, it’s like, ‘Oh, throw in this, throw in that. Let’s add green rain’ — these random, whimsical ideas.”
Despite his attachment to the franchise, Barone admitted that he “didn’t want to just be the *Stardew Valley* guy,” which is why he’s currently developing a new project, Haunted Chocolatier. However, don’t expect a release date for that game anytime soon. Barone noted there’s “still a lot to be done,” and emphasized that he wants it to be “better” than *Stardew Valley*.
Back in 2016, we praised *Stardew Valley* in our original review, awarding it an impressive 8.8/10 and calling it a standout entry in the genre. By 2024, after years of updates and community love, we revisited the game and awarded it a perfect 10/10, writing: “Stardew Valley is not only the best farming game I’ve played, it is one of my favorite games of all time. That myself and others keep returning to this eight-year-old gem each time it gets even the smallest update speaks to how it’s truly a masterpiece in the genre it both reinvigorated and has come to define.”
