Next month, 22 games will be leaving the PlayStation Plus library, including high-profile titles such as Grand Theft Auto V, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the final playable versions of Sony’s first-party classics Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2.

PlayStation Plus is Sony's subscription-based service offering free monthly games, limited-time trials, online multiplayer functionality, and exclusive discounts. It also grants access to a vast library of current and retro titles, especially for Extra and Premium subscribers.

As reported by Push Square, these 22 titles will be removed starting May 20, 2025. Among them are two notable PS3-era first-party exclusives from Sony, both of which will no longer be accessible through the PS Plus Premium tier after their removal.

What makes this removal significant is that Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 are already unavailable for purchase on the PlayStation Store. This means that once they're gone from PS Plus Premium, the only way to play them will be by owning a physical copy and having a working PS3. Both titles were added to the catalog at the end of 2024, making their removal less than a year later particularly surprising.

Developed by Insomniac Games—best known for Ratchet & Clank and Marvel’s Spider-Man—the Resistance series offered an alternate history sci-fi shooter experience across three main entries on PS3. After Resistance 3, the studio shifted focus to other projects, leaving the franchise dormant.

Although it’s uncommon for Sony to remove first-party titles from the service, it isn’t unprecedented. In August 2024, Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West were similarly pulled, though players could still purchase those titles separately. In contrast, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 will become entirely inaccessible to modern console users after May 20.

Interestingly, Resistance 3 and Resistance: Retribution will remain available on the service. Additionally, the more recent PS4 title InFamous: Second Son is also set to leave the lineup.

The Resistance franchise has been quiet for years. In February 2025, Insomniac co-founder Ted Price revealed that there had been internal efforts to revive the series with a potential Resistance 4, but the project never moved beyond development discussions. Like Guerrilla Games’ Killzone series, Resistance now appears to be part of Sony’s legacy portfolio with no immediate plans for revival.
