The Sims franchise commemorates its 25th anniversary with a spectacular celebration! This includes in-game events, a marathon 25-hour livestream, and the highly anticipated return of two classic titles. Let's delve into the details.
Happy 25th Anniversary, The Sims!
A Celebration of Events and Freebies
Players are treated to a wealth of in-game rewards, a star-studded livestream showcasing top Simmers (Sims players), and the triumphant comeback of The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 on PC.
Kevin Gibson, The Sims Production Director, shared with Xbox Wire: "Our amazing players have shown us that no one captures life quite like The Sims, and we wanted to celebrate this incredible journey together. Twenty-five years ago, a game with a groundbreaking concept made waves at E3, and look how far we've come! We've touched multiple generations and millions of lives." He emphasized the crucial role of players over two decades, stating that without their unwavering support, the franchise wouldn't be where it is today.
"Every Simmer, from every era and every way they've played The Sims, is part of this 25-year adventure, and this is our way of saying thank you."
The Return of The Sims 1 and The Sims 2
The biggest news? Simmers can revisit the origins of their favorite franchise! To mark the 25th anniversary, The Sims and The Sims 2, complete with all their DLC, are available for purchase on Steam and the EA store, individually or as a Birthday Bundle.
This is a momentous occasion, as these titles haven't been readily available for purchase for almost a decade. Even with physical copies, running them on modern systems was challenging. EA has addressed this by releasing versions compatible with current hardware, fulfilling a long-awaited wish for many Simmers.
In-Game Festivities for The Sims 4 and The Sims FreePlay
The Sims 4's "Blast From The Past" event introduces iconic clothing, furniture, and décor from earlier games. Over four weeks, new items will be released, including neon inflatable chairs, a three-tiered cake, a light-up dance floor, and even rotary phones.
The Sims FreePlay Birthday Update transports players back to the series' 2000s beginnings with new Live Events ("The One with the Coffee Shop" and "Reality Island"), a velour tracksuit, 25 days of daily gifts, and a Social Town museum showcasing The Sims' history.
A 25-Hour Livestream for 25 Years
The anniversary kicked off with a 25-hour livestream on February 4th, featuring numerous celebrities, streamers, and beloved community creators. Guests included Doja Cat, Latto, Trixie Mattel and Katya, Dan & Phil, Plumbella, Angelo & Lexy, Ironmouse, and many more.
