Hollow Knight: Silksong Confirmed to Be in Development

Fans of the critically acclaimed game Hollow Knight have been eagerly awaiting news about its sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong. Amidst swirling rumors and speculation, Team Cherry’s Marketing and PR Manager, Matthew "Leth" Griffin, has stepped forward to confirm that the game is indeed real and actively being developed. This reassurance comes as a relief to the dedicated fanbase, who have been on the edge of their seats for updates.

The latest buzz began when Hollow Knight co-creator William Pellen changed his X (formerly Twitter) profile picture to a cake, sparking theories about an upcoming announcement or an Alternate Reality Game (ARG) related to Silksong. Speculations even hinted at a potential release on the Nintendo Switch 2. However, YouTuber fireb0rn, after reaching out to Griffin, clarified that the change was merely a "nothingburger" and not indicative of any new developments. Fireb0rn humorously noted, "Apologies to have misled everyone. The cake was a lie."

Despite the false alarm, Griffin took the opportunity to reaffirm the community's hopes by stating unequivocally on X, "Yes the game is real, progressing and will release." This marks the first significant update from Team Cherry in over a year and a half, providing a much-needed boost of confidence to fans.

Silksong’s Journey So Far

First announced in February 2019, Silksong was initially expected to launch in the first half of 2023. However, in May 2023, Team Cherry announced a delay, explaining that the game had "gotten quite big" and they needed more time to polish it. Silksong promises to take players to a new kingdom, introduce nearly 150 new enemies, and feature an innovative Silk Soul mode that adds a new layer of challenge.

Now, nearly two years after the delay, Team Cherry has finally broken their silence with this update. While some fans expressed gratitude and encouragement, urging the team not to rush under pressure, others voiced their impatience, feeling that the update was too minimal after almost six years of waiting.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is slated for release on multiple platforms including PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. Players will follow Hornet, the princess-protector of Hallownest, on her perilous journey through an unfamiliar world, aiming to reach the kingdom's peak. As of now, no specific release window has been announced, but fans are encouraged to stay tuned for further updates and announcements.
