RuneScape: Dragonwilds Early Access Livestream
Early Access Now Live!
RuneScape: Dragonwilds has launched into early access unexpectedly. During a livestream on April 16, developer Jagex revealed that the game is now playable via Steam, following its debut trailer by only a few weeks.
Fans were caught off guard, as the Steam wishlist opened on April 1 and the first official gameplay teaser appeared on April 2. While players first heard about the project in 2022, Jagex only began alpha testing sign-ups in late 2024 for a "new survival game set in the RuneScape universe." The game's formal introduction as RuneScape: Dragonwilds occurred on March 31, 2025.
Targeted Official Launch in Early 2026

The development team aims to release Dragonwilds in early 2026. They explained, "We are dedicating the necessary time to perfect every detail, ensuring players receive a polished and engaging experience they’ll want to return to with friends."
Jagex Executive Producer Jesse America emphasized that Dragonwilds offers a fresh style of RuneScape adventure crafted for longtime followers of the series, noting that early access marks only the beginning of the game's evolution.
He added, "During Early Access, we’ll roll out frequent updates with new content and mechanics, while gathering feedback from the community to shape an iconic open-world survival crafting game that resonates with both devoted RuneScape fans and newcomers."
Early Access Roadmap Uncovered

Jagex has also shared the early access roadmap, highlighting planned additions for players. A major upcoming update features Fellhollow, a mysterious realm caught between the living world and the afterlife.
This region is governed by Imaru, a soul-devouring dragon influenced by Ashenfall's wild anima and cursed energies from the Underworld. Players will journey alongside Death, a familiar RuneScape figure. Expect new quests, expanded lore, equipment, and soundtrack, plus fresh skills in magic, ranged combat, and farming.
Additionally, the update will bring Lesser Dragons as a new enemy category, dragon slayer equipment, hardcore and creative modes, and other features. Though specific release dates aren't confirmed, the developers promise continuous enhancements throughout early access.
Early Access Rewards

Players who buy Dragonwilds during early access will earn exclusive in-game items. According to the Steam listing, "Early Adopters" receive:
● Pioneer’s Scarf
● Pioneer’s Tapestry
● Pioneer’s Cape
● Two music tracks from the game
RuneScape: Dragonwilds is currently in early access on PC, priced at $29.99. Jagex confirmed the game's cost will rise at launch. All early access updates are free, though paid DLC may be introduced after the full release.
