A remake of The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion will have big changes to game mechanics

MP1st has uncovered intriguing details about a rumored The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake, sourced from the anonymous portfolio of a former Virtuos Studios developer. This isn't insider gossip; it's allegedly from the developer's own work samples. The project, reportedly built using Unreal Engine 5, promises a significant departure from the original.

This isn't just a remaster; the portfolio suggests a complete reimagining of Oblivion. Core mechanics are undergoing overhauls, including stamina management, stealth, blocking, archery, damage feedback, and the user interface. The revamped blocking system, for instance, reportedly takes inspiration from Soulslike games, addressing criticisms of the original's underwhelming combat. Damage calculations have been reworked to include more visible and impactful hit reactions. Stamina is expected to be more intuitive, and both the UI and archery mechanics will be modernized.

MP1st speculates that while initial plans might have involved a simple remaster (as hinted at in leaked Microsoft documents), the project has evolved into a full-blown remake.

While sources confirmed the Oblivion remake won't appear at the upcoming Developer_Direct, rumors suggest a potential release this year.
