Project ETHOS: 2K Games' Innovative Roguelike Hero Shooter Now in Playtest
2K Games and 31st Union have launched a playtest for Project ETHOS, their free-to-play roguelike hero shooter. This innovative title blends the dynamic action of hero shooters with the strategic depth of roguelike progression. The playtest runs from October 17th to 21st, offering players a first look at this exciting new game.
A Unique Blend of Genres
Project ETHOS distinguishes itself through its unique gameplay loop. The core mechanic involves randomized "Evolutions" that dramatically alter hero abilities mid-match, forcing players to adapt and improvise. Transform a long-range sniper into a close-quarters combatant, or bolster a support character into a solo powerhouse – the possibilities are endless.
The game features two primary modes:
-
Trials: A signature mode where three-player teams battle against both human and AI opponents. Players collect Cores, strategically choosing when to extract and invest them in upgrades (Augments) for future runs. Death means losing accumulated Cores, adding a high-stakes element to each match. Matches are joinable at any point, but be aware of the remaining time and potential enemy encounters.
-
Gauntlet: A classic competitive PvP mode with tournament-style brackets. Players upgrade their hero with each victory, culminating in a final showdown. Elimination means waiting for the next round.
How to Participate in the Playtest
Project ETHOS embraces community feedback, shaping its development through ongoing updates. The current playtest, limited to players in the US, Canada, Mexico, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy, offers access through Twitch drops (30 minutes of viewing a participating stream) and website registration for future playtest opportunities.
Server uptime for the playtest:
North America: October 17th: 10 AM – 11 PM PT; October 18th-20th: 11 AM – 11 PM PT
Europe: October 17th: 6 PM - 1 AM GMT+1; October 18th-21st: 1 PM - 1 AM GMT+1
