Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team Joins Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack
Get ready for a dungeon-crawling adventure! Nintendo announced that Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team will be available on the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service starting August 9th. This classic Game Boy Advance title offers a unique roguelike experience where players become Pokémon, exploring dungeons and solving the mystery of their transformation.
The addition of Red Rescue Team expands the already impressive library of retro games available to Expansion Pack subscribers, which includes titles from the Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and Sega Genesis libraries. However, the lack of mainline Pokémon games on the service continues to be a point of discussion among fans.
Fan Demand for Mainline Pokémon Games
While many appreciate the addition of Red Rescue Team, many fans are still hoping to see classic titles like Pokémon Red and Blue added to the service. Speculation regarding the absence of mainline Pokémon games ranges from potential compatibility issues with the N64 Transfer Pak to challenges integrating the service with the Pokémon Home app due to licensing and potential exploit concerns.
Nintendo Switch Online Mega Multiplayer Festival
Beyond the Pokémon news, Nintendo also announced a Mega Multiplayer Festival running until September 8th. Resubscribing to a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online membership will earn you an extra two months free! Additional perks include bonus Gold Points on game purchases (August 5th-18th) and free multiplayer game trials (August 19th-25th; titles to be announced later). A multiplayer game sale will also run from August 26th to September 8th, 2024.
The future of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack on the upcoming Switch 2 remains to be seen. For more information on the Switch 2, check out [link to Switch 2 article].
