Obsidian RPG Avowed Can Hit 60FPS on Xbox Series X

Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming RPG, Avowed, will be capable of hitting 60 frames per second on the Xbox Series X. Game director Carrie Patel confirmed this to MinnMax, though she didn't elaborate on whether this will be a selectable performance mode or the default setting. The Xbox Series S version, however, will remain capped at 30fps, as previously announced. It's currently unclear if Avowed will offer a performance mode (60fps with potentially lower visual settings) and a graphics mode (30fps with enhanced visuals), or if the 60fps target on the Series X is achieved without separate modes.

Avowed launches on February 13th for those who purchase the premium edition ($89.99), while the standard edition ($69.99) will release on February 18th. This staggered release strategy, while employed by some publishers, has already been abandoned by others, such as Ubisoft.

Set within the same universe as Pillars of Eternity, Avowed is a first-person fantasy RPG emphasizing player choice and agency. Players will navigate a world steeped in war, mystery, and intrigue, forging alliances and rivalries that shape their journey. IGN's final preview lauded the game's nuanced conversations, player freedom, and overall enjoyment, stating simply: "Avowed is just a lot of fun."
