Nintendo Switch 2: Genki's CES Mockup Reveals Key Details
Genki, a prominent handheld gaming accessory developer, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key features. Based on a reportedly black-market acquired unit, the mockup showcased a design larger than its predecessor, approaching the size of the Steam Deck. CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed significant design changes in a subsequent interview with The Verge.
Key features confirmed include magnetic Joy-Con controllers, utilizing a pin-release mechanism for detachment. While magnetic, Tsai assures users the Joy-Cons remain secure during gameplay. Furthermore, the Joy-Con's mounting channels incorporate optical sensors, hinting at potential mouse-like functionality via a yet-to-be-released accessory. Leaked Switch 2 images appear to corroborate the presence of these sensors.
Despite its increased dimensions, the Switch 2's slim profile allows it to physically fit within the existing Switch dock. However, structural differences render it incompatible for use. The purpose of a new "C" button and an additional USB-C port remain undisclosed.
