HoYoverse has rolled out a major new update for Tears of Themis titled "Ballad of the Dunes." This is a special collaboration event with the Culture and Tourism Department of Gansu Province. This partnership merges the game's detective narrative with the profound cultural heritage of Dunhuang, a historic city carved along the edge of the Gobi Desert.
What's New in the Ballad of the Dunes Update?
The event weaves together elements of history, romance, and enigma, all set against the timeless backdrop of the desert. Players will unravel intricate cases while immersed in the legendary atmosphere of the ancient Silk Road. Let's explore the specific additions this update introduces.
Four new MR cards are available, featuring Luke, Artem, Vyn, and Marius. Each character's design draws inspiration from distinct facets of Dunhuang's art. You'll see them adorned as celestial flying apsaras, set against elaborate murals, and even holding a pipa in the traditional back-held pose.
This styling is a direct homage to the ancient musicians famously depicted within the Mogao Caves. The Silk Road served as a vibrant crossroads for artistic, cultural, and commercial exchange, beginning as early as the Western Han Dynasty (202 BC–8 AD). HoYoverse is now reimagining this legacy within the digital world of Tears of Themis.
Each MR card unfolds its own unique narrative. These are Luke’s "In the Footsteps of Silk," Artem’s "Serenade of the Soul," Vyn’s "Reverberation Through Time," and Marius’s "Void of Creation." Players can also unlock Private Messages with each card, offering a deeper look into a journey spanning a thousand years.

What Rewards Can You Earn?
From February 13th to February 20th, 2025, players can earn event-specific items like Camel Bells, S-Chips, and various other resources by completing designated tasks. The core gameplay involves revealing tiles on a special event board to collect these prizes.
The most sought-after rewards in this Tears of Themis event are the four Ballad of the Dunes MR cards. Upon fulfilling the requirements of a game round, you can select one of the four MR cards as your primary reward. Furthermore, players who successfully reveal 100 tiles will be awarded the exclusive "Celebration – Dunes" namecard.
Tears of Themis is available for download on the Google Play Store for you to join the event.
