Big news for Netflix Games subscribers who enjoy Grand Theft Auto! Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City will be leaving the Netflix Games catalog next month.
Why the Departure? License Expiration.
This isn't a surprise move; Netflix licenses games similarly to movies and shows. The licensing agreements for these two GTA titles are expiring on December 13th. A "Leaving Soon" notification will appear in-game before their removal. The games were added a year ago, marking the end of the initial 12-month agreement between Netflix and Rockstar Games.
If you're currently playing either game on Netflix, you'll need to finish up your virtual escapades before the deadline. Don't worry, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas remains available.
What are your options?
To continue your GTA experience, you can purchase the Definitive Editions of Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City from the Google Play Store. Each game costs $4.99, or you can get the entire trilogy for $11.99.
Unlike the sudden removal of some games last year, Netflix is giving players advance notice. Interestingly, this decision comes despite Netflix's subscriber growth in 2023 being partly attributed to the GTA trilogy.
There are rumors suggesting Rockstar and Netflix are collaborating on potential remastered versions of Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, and even Chinatown Wars. Fingers crossed this proves true!
