MultiVersus to Conclude Operations After Season 5
Warner Bros. Games has announced the upcoming closure of MultiVersus, its popular platform fighter, following the completion of its fifth season. The game will officially shut down on May 30th, 2025.
Season 5: The Final Chapter
The official MultiVersus (X) account revealed on January 31st, 2025, that Season 5, launching February 4th, 2025, will be the game's last. This season will introduce two new playable characters: Aquaman (DC) and Lola Bunny (Looney Tunes), both unlockable through gameplay. All Season 5 content will be earnable in-game. Following the season's conclusion, MultiVersus will be removed from all digital storefronts (PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store). No official reason for the shutdown has been provided.
Offline Play Option
While online services cease, MultiVersus will retain a local gameplay mode. Players can enjoy offline matches against AI or with up to three friends. To access this, download the latest version of the game between February 4th (9 AM PST) and May 30th (9 AM PDT). A local save file will be created, preserving earned and purchased content linked to your account.
In-Game Currency and Transactions
Real-money transactions ended on January 31st, 2025. Any remaining Gleamium (in-game currency) can be used until Season 5's end.
A Short but Action-Packed Run
MultiVersus launched its public beta in July 2022, quickly gaining popularity as a free-to-play platform fighter. A relaunch in May 2024 introduced features like rollback netcode and a new PvE mode, but the game faced ongoing challenges, including technical issues and player count decline. At its closure, MultiVersus will boast a roster of 35 characters. The developers expressed gratitude for the community's support.
MultiVersus remains available for download on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC until May 30th, 2025.
