Monster Hunter Wilds Adds Real-Money Microtransactions

Authore: SophiaUpdate:Apr 12,2025

Capcom's latest addition to Monster Hunter Wilds introduces a feature that lets players customize their hunter and Palico's appearances. While the initial edit comes at no cost, any further modifications demand the purchase of Character Edit Vouchers. These vouchers are sold in sets of three for $6 or as a bundle for both characters at $10. Without these vouchers, players are limited to changing only hairstyles, eyebrow color, makeup, and clothing, leaving core facial features untouched.

This monetization strategy was not revealed during the game's early previews and only surfaced last week through Capcom's social media. Despite the backlash over microtransactions and performance hiccups, Monster Hunter Wilds shattered records, boasting over 1.3 million concurrent players on Steam at its launch.

Capcom has remained silent on the community's feedback about this new approach. Fans have voiced their discontent with the paid customization model, drawing unfavorable comparisons to earlier Monster Hunter games where such changes were either free or earned through in-game currency. Many in the community believe this move detracts from a core aspect of the series that has long been cherished by its players.
