Amazon Cancelling Metroid Prime 4: Beyond’s Pre-Orders
Reservation Charge will be Refunded
On January 11, 2025, reports emerged across Reddit, Resetera, and other online forums that Amazon was canceling pre-orders for Metroid Prime 4. Screenshots shared by users revealed emails from Amazon stating that the pre-orders were canceled "due to a lack of availability." Despite the disappointing news, Amazon assured customers that the reservation charge would be refunded within 1-2 business days.
This news has left many Metroid fans disheartened, especially those who pre-ordered the game back when it was first announced at E3 2017. However, the cancellation does not indicate that the game has been canceled; it simply means it is no longer available for pre-order on Amazon at this time.

Metroid Prime 4’s Development History
Metroid Prime 4 was first unveiled to the public during E3 2017. Initially, it was announced that the game would not be developed by Retro Studios, known for their work on previous Metroid titles. The developer at the time remained undisclosed by Nintendo.
Two years later, in January 2019, Nintendo made a significant announcement via a YouTube video, revealing that development had been restarted under Retro Studios. Shinya Takahashi, a senior managing executive officer at Nintendo, stated that "the current development progress has not reached the standards we seek in a sequel to the Metroid Prime series."
Fast forward to June 2024, and Nintendo released a full gameplay trailer for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond at the end of its Nintendo Direct. This trailer not only confirmed the game's full title but also moved its release date to 2025. It showcased the game's antagonist, Sylux, leading a group of Space Pirates in an unnamed facility.
Most recently, on January 3, 2025, Nintendo reaffirmed the 2025 release window for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond in a news post. Despite Amazon's decision to cancel pre-orders, this reaffirmation suggests that the game is still on track for a release this year.
With the anticipation of the Switch 2's announcement, it remains to be seen whether Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will launch on the original Switch or its successor.
