Medabots Survivor brings the classic role-playing franchise to the bullet heaven genre

Medabot Survivors: Bullet-Hell Action for Medabots Fans, but Only in Japan (for now)

Medabot Survivors, a new bullet-hell action game based on the popular robot role-playing series, has launched in Japan for iOS and Android. For those unfamiliar, Medabots enjoyed a surge in popularity following Pokémon's success, though it never achieved the same global recognition as other similar franchises like Digimon.

While Medabots may not be a household name in the West, it boasts a significant following in Japan. The choice of the "Survivors" genre, popularized by games like Vampire Survivors, is a smart move for the franchise. However, the game's current Japan-only release is disappointing for international fans.

A Look at the Genre's Global Spread

The "Survivors" genre, while popularized recently, has much older roots. Medabot Survivors' release is noteworthy as it highlights the genre's growing global appeal. Many excellent Japanese games unfortunately never see international releases, but the success of Medabot Survivors could potentially change that. If the game proves popular in Japan, there's hope for a future Western release.
