Keanu Reeves has delivered an exciting update on the much-anticipated sequel to the 2005 cult classic, *Constantine*. As John Constantine, the occult detective and exorcist from DC Comics, Reeves captivated audiences in the original film and has since been vocal about his desire to reprise the role. Now, after over a decade of efforts to bring *Constantine 2* to life, Reeves confirmed that they've successfully pitched a story to DC Studios, and the project is moving forward to the scriptwriting phase.
"We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, 'Okay,'" Reeves shared with Inverse. "So, we're going to try and write a script."

While this news is promising, it's important to note that *Constantine 2* is not yet a confirmed project within the rebooted DC Universe. DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran have not mentioned it as part of their upcoming slate. Thus, the project remains on the edge, awaiting further development and approval.
Reeves also hinted that if *Constantine 2* does come to fruition, it will be set in the same universe as the original film. "We're not going off that," he assured fans, playfully adding, "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more."
This update follows comments from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who revealed in September that a script for *Constantine 2* was already in his inbox. In a conversation with ComicBook, di Bonaventura expressed his apprehension about reading it due to his high hopes for the sequel. "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough," he said. "I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
