Jason Momoa is set to bring the iconic character Lobo to life in the 2026 DC Universe film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia, is known for his superhuman strength and immortality. As the last survivor of his now-dead world, similar to Superman, Lobo was first introduced by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen in Omega Men #3 back in 1983.
Transitioning from his role as Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), Momoa steps into the rebooted DC Universe (DCU) to portray Lobo, a character he has long admired and identified with due to their aesthetic similarities. In an interview with ScreenRant, Momoa expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating, "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play. That’s the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike’s really cool."
From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa is crossing DC universes.
Momoa also hinted at Lobo's screen time, saying, "It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit," suggesting that while fans will get a good look at Lobo, his appearance will be brief.
In January, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl on Bluesky, marking the start of filming for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The film, set to release in June 2026, is heavily inspired by the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. The story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills.
The cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and Jason Momoa as Lobo. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be the second film in the new DCU, following James Gunn's Superman, which is scheduled for release this summer. The DCU's Clayface movie is slated for September 2026.
