Residents of Japan have the option to purchase either version, but the Japanese-language system is strictly available within Japan and can only be linked to Nintendo Accounts set to the Japanese region. This version supports only the Japanese language and is limited to software available on the Japanese Nintendo eShop.

Switch 2 Will Be Sold By Lottery At The My Nintendo Store
Acquiring the Nintendo Switch 2 will involve entering a lottery through the My Nintendo Store. Additionally, various retailers and online shops across Japan will start accepting reservations or lottery entries on April 24, contingent on stock availability. To participate in the My Nintendo Store lottery, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- As of February 28, 2025, have at least 50 hours of playtime on Nintendo Switch software (excluding demo and free software).
- Have a cumulative subscription period of at least one year to Nintendo Switch Online and be an active subscriber at the time of application.
