IGN is thrilled to share that fans of the highly anticipated game Hollow Knight: Silksong will have the chance to play it at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, in Melbourne starting September 18, 2025. Developed by Team Cherry, a studio based in Adelaide, South Australia, Silksong has been eagerly awaited by gamers worldwide and has consistently topped the Steam wishlist chart for years. While the exact release date remains under wraps, with only a vague 2025 window announced, this playable demo at ACMI offers a glimmer of hope and excitement for fans.
The game will be featured as part of the "Game Worlds" exhibition at ACMI, which will not only allow visitors to play Silksong but also explore the game's intricate design and artistic direction through various displays. This exhibition promises an immersive experience, delving into the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet's movements and attacks, as well as the logic behind the game's challenging boss fights.

ACMI co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell expressed their excitement about featuring Silksong in the exhibition: “Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September. From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!”
As part of the announcement, ACMI shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, one of several design elements from the game that will be showcased in the Game Worlds exhibition. The image was provided to IGN with permission.
While the playable demo at ACMI in September suggests that Silksong might be released before then, perhaps even as early as August, fans remain eager for any official word on the exact release date. The anticipation continues to build, especially after Silksong made a brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct last month, where Team Cherry confirmed the 2025 release window. This was the most significant update on Silksong in years.
Hollow Knight: Silksong was initially confirmed for Nintendo Switch and PC, with versions for Xbox (including Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 to follow. Over the years, Team Cherry has kept fans on their toes with various teasers, including a mysterious tease related to a chocolate cake recipe at the start of 2025, sparking hopes for a re-reveal in April.
