Hearthstone Unveils StarCraft Mini-Set: Release Date Announced

Hearthstone's Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set: A Deep Dive

Hearthstone enthusiasts have a thrilling addition to look forward to with the unveiling of the Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set, set to launch on January 21. This Mini-Set, the largest in Hearthstone's history, introduces a whopping 49 new cards, blending class-specific cards with multi-class StarCraft faction cards. This crossover with Blizzard's beloved yet often overlooked StarCraft universe is a part of The Great Dark Beyond expansion, and it promises to bring a fresh twist to the game.

The excitement around Heroes of StarCraft began during the Warcraft Direct on November 13, 2024, where only basic details were shared. Now, two months later, Hearthstone has revealed the full scope of this Mini-Set. It includes 11 more cards than the usual Mini-Sets, with each of Hearthstone's classes receiving three new cards. Additionally, the StarCraft factions - Zerg, Protoss, and Terran - are represented by five cards each, which are compatible with specific Hearthstone classes. Highlighting the set is the neutral Legendary card, Grunty, alongside faction-specific Legendaries. Hearthstone has already teased some of these cards, with more reveals scheduled in the week leading up to the launch.

The Zerg faction cards, available to Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Hunter, and Warlock, are designed around the strategy of summoning numerous Zerglings and leveraging the Hydralisk for swarm-based damage. On the other hand, the Protoss cards for Druid, Mage, Priest, and Rogue emphasize mana manipulation to facilitate the play of high-cost cards like the Carrier. The Paladin, Shaman, and Warrior classes will benefit from new Starship mechanics, including Starship Pieces and strategies to launch multiple Starships, with a unique Starship featuring the Mech creature type.

Despite its expanded size, the Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set comes at a higher cost. While the cards are available in The Great Dark Beyond packs, a complete playset of all the new cards can be purchased for $20 or 2500 gold - an increase of $5 and 500 gold over standard Mini-Set pricing. The all-Golden version is priced at $80 or 12,000 gold, up from the usual $70 and 10,000 gold. However, fans looking to dive into specific factions can opt for packs of Protoss, Terran, or Zerg cards for $10 or 1200 gold each.

To celebrate the launch, Hearthstone is hosting two streamed events. StarCast on January 23 at 10 AM PST will showcase StarCraft legends TrumpSC and Day9 playing with the new cards. Following that, HearthCraft on January 24 at 9 AM PST will see Hearthstone community creators representing each faction in competitive matches and mini-games. Viewers tuning into these events on Twitch can earn two normal and two Golden The Great Dark Beyond packs, ensuring that no one misses out on the action and the chance to snag some free cards.
