This article delves into the details of this potential partnership and its implications.

Square Enix and Tencent's Potential FFXIV Mobile Game

Largely Unconfirmed Collaboration

Niko Partners' latest report highlights 15 games approved by China's National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA) for release within the country. Among these is a mobile version of Square Enix's renowned MMO, Final Fantasy XIV, purportedly under development by Tencent. Other notable titles slated for release include a mobile and PC version of Rainbow Six, two Marvel-based games (Marvel Snap and Marvel Rivals), and a mobile game based on Dynasty Warriors 8.

While whispers of Tencent's involvement in a Final Fantasy XIV mobile adaptation circulated last month, neither company has officially confirmed the project.

According to Daniel Ahmad of Niko Partners, via a recent X (formerly Twitter) post, the FFXIV mobile game is anticipated to be a standalone MMORPG, distinct from its PC counterpart. However, Ahmad emphasized that this information is largely based on industry speculation and lacks official confirmation.

Square Enix announced earlier this year, in May, its commitment to a multi-platform approach for key franchises like Final Fantasy, indicating a shift towards wider accessibility.
