Tides of Annihilation, drawing inspiration from Arthurian legend, casts players as Gwendolyn, a young woman battling alongside spectral knights to rescue her family and mend a fractured world.
The game unfolds in a ravaged, modern-day London, overrun by a mysterious otherworldly force. Gwendolyn and her team confront relentless enemy hordes, primarily colossal, roaming knights, demanding strategic combat that involves scaling and engaging these behemoths in intense close-quarters battles.
While visually impressive, the game's narrative presents a challenge. Recent soulslike titles have successfully reimagined classic tales; "Journey to the West" offered Western audiences a fresh perspective, and "Lies of P" presented a unique twist on Pinocchio. However, Tides of Annihilation's King Arthur-inspired storyline feels somewhat overdone, lacking the innovative hook needed to fully captivate players despite its visual appeal.
